closely related and they both are a part of a larger Eastern philosophy
of wellbeing. They both recognize the importance of stretching, mobilising
joints, realigning. They both appreciate the holistic approach whereby the
practice is comprehensive (head to toe) and suited to one’s needs. They both seek to rebalance the energy through bodywork and
relaxation. They do have a lot in
common and they complement each other. It is also very reassuring to see how they both fit into a large
agenda of wellbeing and Metta Bhavana (loving-kindness).

Evahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07900400971090875575noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8944875575393670954.post-43949132095887365482020-03-13T10:33:00.003-07:002020-03-13T10:34:40.887-07:00FlowThrough my own practice I seek to create a flow: slow enough to notice how things happen, to enjoy the degree of control I have (flow, not float), and fast enough to keep things moving, without getting stuck, without dwelling on things, enjoying fluidity and vigour. I open my chest and hips noticing my vulnerability. I accommodate. I give and I take. I flow growing in strength and patience. I may tumble or trip, I may hit a brick wall. That's just a part of the larger flow. Flow with humility.Evahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07900400971090875575noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8944875575393670954.post-36162882085755937732019-10-19T00:02:00.001-07:002019-10-19T00:02:46.977-07:00

If you persevere (practicing meditation, pranayama, mindfulness, flow), you may begin to catch glimpses of your inner light - the very point of reference that is not affected by any external circumstances, unchanging and completely non-judgmental. The things before your eyes and in your head will still be the same, but your perspective will begin to change. Feel reassured by this warmth and light that you find within as it will light your path.Evahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07900400971090875575noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8944875575393670954.post-427950555466829192019-01-06T14:15:00.001-08:002019-01-06T14:15:40.884-08:00

We all have limited time and yet we waste so much of it even though we know what we engage in is neither helpful nor necessary. For instance overthinking and dwelling on things or, on the other hand, somewhat mindless activities including letting social media hijack so much or our time. Perhaps we can all have a slightly better routine, this may help find a better balance: reflect instead of dwelling, use social media/phones for things that matter without developing an addiction-like sense of urgency if you've not checked your phone for 10 minutes, make time for what really matters and some form of practice (asana, pranayama, meditation etc.). It's difficult yet rewarding.Evahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07900400971090875575noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8944875575393670954.post-23048069311817567652018-02-28T08:44:00.002-08:002018-02-28T08:44:59.248-08:00
I can easily think of situations when I was wrong and refused to acknowledge it at the time. Our perception is clouded by many factors such as self-righteousness, a narrow perspective, lack of knowledge, suggestibility, taking the least line of resistance, a false sense of security and sense of preservation, etc. Misconceptions affect our thinking, understanding and behaviour in a long run causing suffering and delusion. There are four branches of avidya:

Asmita / ego - being convinced one is right, wanting to be better than others, self-image (both positive and negative);

Raga - greed/attachment - wanting things because we are attached to them and because we associate them with a pleasurable experience rather than actually needing them; not getting those things creates dissatisfaction and disappointment leading to suffering and distorted view of what we need and how to use our resources;

Dvesha - rejection/denial - rejecting things that we associate with unpleasant or difficult experiences, becoming complacent, opinionated or, on the other end of the scale - having no confidence in one's own ability;

Abhinivesha - fear (including fear of death) - we are unwilling to get out of our comfort zone for various reasons. Fear of discomfort, challenge, changes, the unknown - create attachment to the status quo, anxiety, trepidation and distorted view of of how things are and how things can change.

<div style="background: rgb(255, 255, 255); color: #323232; font-family: "PT Sans", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
First we need to acknowledge that Avidya does affect our perception. Secondly self-reflection and contemplation will help to notice those unhealthy thinking patterns. Yoga practice (including meditation and pranayama) are essential tools in this self-awareness journey. Building a clearer, more genuine understanding and perception may slowly help us make right decisions and enjoy a more balanced life.

That's largely how our social interaction works. We like to say and do things that we know will show us as polite, respectful, funny, sometimes assertive, sometimes compassionate, valuing family, relationships and fun. Although such cliches help us maintain self-esteem and sense of belonging, they make us run on autopilot, possibly leaving little room for nurturing self-awareness, attentiveness, self-enquiry. As we begin to live more mindfully, we may notice the astounding value in seeing things afresh, thinking, saying and doing things out of your heart's need. To do this we need to quieten the mind by meditating and bringing mindfulness into our daily life. Be aware of your thoughts and emotions. Be aware of what say and do and how you say it and do it. But first find silence and stillness.Evahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07900400971090875575noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8944875575393670954.post-4188715367307929232016-07-01T10:27:00.003-07:002016-07-01T10:27:58.513-07:00A day of yoga: back-bends and heart opening
