As the festive season approaches we tend to celebrate more, pamper ourselves and others, and (over)indulge . On the one hand it is great to have fun and be in high spirits as we are more engaged and animated. On the hand, however, on the wave of this festive overindulgence we tend to overspent, overeat and overdrink, etc. Yogic philosophy is teaching us that if we have an inward focus, we make better decisions and are not easily swayed having to constantly please our senses. Moderation does not mean denying yourself pleasures, but rather satisfying your senses with less, being more mindful and grateful for little pleasures. Less is more.
The last class before Christmas is on 15th Dec at Tulse Hill, 7-8:30pm. Classes resume on 3rd Jan 2015. In the meantime take time to celebrate your breath & movement.

Busy autumn
Just like some of you, autumn is particularly busy for me with a few foreign travels on the agenda. I'll be happy to do as many classes as I possibly can but a few classes will have to be covered by my lovely colleagues or cancelled. Please check "Classes" section for details.
We are still working on hips but it's time to get back to those weak arms again!

Last class in Brockwell Park this summer
YES! the class is on. We keep it short as it gets dark early (7-8pm). Although my classes normally warm you up, do wrap up warm. See you there

10th Sep another class in the park
As our usual hall for Wednesday classes is not available on 10th, we can go to Brockwell Park if it's not too wet. We may be lucky again! If it's raining, we can have a class at my place but it may be a bit of a squeeze. Check with me on the day.

post-workshop reflection
A big thank you to all participants of the workshop. I feel uplifted and I hope so do you. We did lots of hip work, mentioned how we gather stress and tension around the hips, generated high energy to go deeper in our postures, did yoga nidra (do you remember your sankalpa?) and visualisation touching upon replacing unhelpful and negative traits with those promoting well-being and confidence. I hope the fire of tapas will keep you going positive and strong.

Fingers crossed we can have another class in Brockwell Park. Wrap up warm as it's a bit chilly and take a shawl or a small blanket. It is probably the last al fresco class this year so take advantage of it and join in. Based on donation.

Yoga in Brockwell Park 01.08.14
Are you ready for another class in the Park? I hope the weather will be generous to us again. If all is well, the Friday evening class (7-8:30) will take place in the space between the playground and tennis courts. Take a jumper and a blanket as you may be chilly when you lie down. Bring your own mat if you have one, or use one of mine. Perhaps you can bring some newcomers with you? Based on donation.

late class cancellation 25.0714 at Tulse HIll
I am sorry to say but our class scheduled for 7pm has been cancelled due to flooding in the High Trees centre! It is too wet to go to the park so I don't think we have any other option but just cancel. I hope you can use this time at home to relax and maybe do some yoga too.
Embracing yoga in rural Wales
I was lucky enough to join a retreat in Felinganol (near Cardigan), courtesy of Meriel Goss- a warm, caring and very open hostess of her rural retreat, which has all the ingredients for nurturing your body and mind. Delicious home-made food, a rustic studio, a woodland setting with a stream, camp fire... oh, and a lovely beach is not far just a short drive away. We shared our energy, experimented with movement and how it resonates in our minds, did yoga to relax, to energise, to find our connection with nature and people around us. Thank you Meriel and everybody who shared this with me. If you are interested in Meriel's retreat, have a look at her blog http://www.yogawithmeriel.co.uk/home and if there is interested we may organised a group retreat there at some point. Highly recommended!

Yoga in Brockwell Park
If the weather doesn't let us down, I'm inviting you all to a yoga session in Brockwell Park on Friday 27th June 14, 7pm. We are going to be between the playground and the tennis courts, near the ponds. Bring your own mat if you have one but I'll bring a few spare ones for those who don't. I am hoping we will be able to enjoy the outdoors. It is based on donation (you may or may not use your block booking if you want) and there is no pressure to pay anything if you can't afford. Hope to see you all there, that is if it doesn't rain.

Mindfulness on an off your yoga mat
Summer is in a full swing and for most of us that means more time outdoors, enjoying the weather and nature around us. It is a wonderful opportunity to notice the nature around us, rather than to take it for granted. Noticing a great abundance of colours, shapes and texture (flowers, grass, trees, insects, etc.) can be truly satisfying and can give you a real boost of energy. That might be your first step into mindfulness. In the same way we can approach other daily activities, simply re-discovering them for ourselves, noticing sensations they bring without forming any judgment or attachment. Another way in or on the way to mindfulness is through your yoga pratice - giving it your full attention, noticing your strengths and weaknesses without judgment, working within your limitations, trying to approach it with fresh enthusiasm, In return mindfulness will give you satisfaction, contentment, stronger commitment and peace of mind.

Love your back YOGA
From among various benefits of yoga, having a pain-free, flexible back is probably the most appealing one. We tend to remember our back only when it begins to hurt. A regular, balanced yoga practice takes care of your back in more way than one: it strengthens, makes it more supple, release tension and aches, improves posture and more. As your back is doing such an important job for you, you need to do a little bit for it too. Our theme for the next few sessions will be the lower back. All classes are back to normal, except there is no class on 23rd and 26th May.

Spring into action
Another big thank you to all of you that are sticking with regular attendance. I have noticed a drop in numbers so let's not allow those resolutions and commitments made to ourselves wither easily. Everybody is welcome at any of my classes and venues so if your usual day is not convenient for any reason, feel free to pop in to my other classes. I particularly recommend the Saturday morning class in Camberwell as we have a spacious hall and it is such a great beginnings of the weekend. As I'm going away to seek inspiration and breath different air for there won't be any classes from 16th to 25th April. There will be a yoga class in Tulse Hill on TUESDAY 15th (NOT WEDNESDAY) so please make the best of it before we have a short break. If you have any feedback for me, ask me for a feedback form after your class.

No yoga class in Tulse Hill 7th March
As the venue is not available this Friday (March, 7th) there is no class at High Trees. Classes are running as usual next week so we have 2 classes at Tulse Hill: Wed and Fri, 7-8:30. Sorry about it and hope you can perhaps do some home practice (e.g. 10 minutes of breathing practice and/or a few stretches using a wall).

Friday yoga in Tulse Hill is back
To give us a bit more space and to keep the energy going the Friday evening class at Tulse Hill is back (as of 14th Feb). So you can come to either or, better still, both Wednesday and Friday. I can only run it with your support so I hope you will be able to commit yourself to it. Thank you everybody for the last few weeks - fantastic energy, support and smiles all around!
